Oblong Pedestal Bowl

This bowl is another attempt at an oblong pedestal bowl I made some time ago. I decided the feet on the previous bowl were too small for the size of the bowl. This time I enlarged the feet to fit the whole bottom.

Here's the interior but it's difficult to see the depth of the bowl from this angle. I'm not sure I like three rings touching for feet; next time I might try one big ring for the pedestal. I like to document the piece freshly made to compare the colors to the bisque fired piece. I never know how these colors will fire. Will they be bright or pastel, we shall see.

At the farmer's market the rain held off till the end of the market and lots of new pots found new homes. Several more folks expressed interest in taking pottery classes. A big thank you to all my new pottery collectors. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Nice Pot! I kind of like the three big feet, but I may like the next one even better so who knows? Digital cameras are terrific for documentation!

  2. Hi Suzi, thanks, for some reason I can "see" the pots better if I take a photo and look at that rather than the pot. We'll see how the next one looks just glad the feet are holding the bowl up. Ha.

    1. Hi Anna, thanks, this technique is so much fun since I have no idea what it will look like after firing.

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks, I think the first year moving somewhere is the hardest as the house isn't the way you want neither is the yard. finally I am able to get some gardening done and transition into the market, although it is hard without a permanent spot having to show up more than an hour early and wait and wait to get a spot and then rush to set up, it takes it's toll the next couple of days to rest up for the next week's trials again.

  6. Those glazes look like they'll be beautiful...nice shape. You always seem to get a good balance of features and glazes, no matter what. Can't wait to see the finished product. Glad your sales are doing well.

    1. Hi Barb, thanks, those are underglazes and I'll put a clear glaze over the top, I can't wait to see how it turns out either, always a mystery with this technique. I too am glad about the sales - even with threatened rain which held off till we left.

  8. Hi Sue, thanks, yes hoping for a permanent spot, Gary was so tired after two days sales of trash to treasures and helping me that he went to bed on Saturday afternoon and woke up at 8:30 pm and thought it was the next day and fixed his oatmeal for breakfast. Us old folks weren't meant to work so hard.

  10. Hi Charlene, thanks, going to try a few more pedestal styles for this one but I think the larger feet are more stable than the last one I did.
