Pinch Pots & Pottery Shelves

I took some clay to the gallery yesterday and managed to get a nice group of pinch pots (bowls) made. It's been quite a while since I made pinch pots. I put a plastic garbage bag in the bottom of a low box and carefully put the pinch pots in and put them on the floor of my car on the way home. They seem to have fared OK. When my drying shelves are full I have plastic mini racks I put my wallboard on; they are piling up around the studio floor. I am out of those now. Come on weather please cooperate.

Remember these shelves I built in Florida, primed them and painted them, well the paint never did dry (Lowe's advised me the paint department put too much colorant in the paint). I reused the lumber for the potting bench and other table we built at the beginning of summer. I'm finally getting around to building some more shelves. I won't paint the next ones; I'll stain them. Click here for the supply list. I have a small modification to the top shelf to make the whole set up more sturdy, which I'll show you after they're built. Gary and I are finding the tables are just too heavy for us to keep unloading and loading into the car and setting up.

The next three days thunderstorms are predicted; looks like I won't be able to run the kiln till next week in the late evening, we shall see. The weather changes daily. I don't want to risk an electrical zap to my kiln. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. Hi Sue, thanks, yes I feel like I am spinning my wheels, we get so much lightening that it's a big risk to fire the kiln.

  3. The weather forecast for July and August is Hazy, hot and humid, 20% chance of rain. Maybe a generator is in your future.

  4. Hi Lori, thanks, you are so smart to have mentioned a generator; we have a generator which we got in Florida but never needed to use it; I will see how long it can run on a tank of gas and see what my electrician says about using it with the kiln. Want to be sure the amperage is constant and not fluctuating for the sensitivity to the kiln's electronics.

  5. Artists are dependent on so much, it's a shame weather is one.

  6. Hi Joanne, thanks, yeah the cost of a kiln is so much I am not willing to take a risk.

  7. I agree with better safe than sorry. I unplug my computer when thunder starts up the valley...since I lost one to a power surge (even with a surge protector and it was turned off!) during a storm while I was out of town a few years ago.
