Lean On Me Old Friend

Are there people in your life you've leaned on, people you lean on now? For me when I was an infant it was my parents, as a child it was my friends and my grandmother. Later in high school I had a best girl friend, Valerie. We were friends from seventh grade till twelfth grade. Then due to unforeseen circumstances we lost touch with one another.

Now almost forty-five years later Valerie and I have found each other and re-connected. She lives in the San Francisco bay area but we talk on the phone and in emails. I can tell her anything and she can tell me anything, at least I hope she can. I didn't realize or appreciate till recently how much I missed my very best girl friend from so long ago. I hope Valerie knows she can lean on me. Please lean on me old friend. (I don't mean old as in, we're old, but old as in, we're old friends for always).

I wonder if Valerie would appreciate the piece above. I don' t know her style but I could send her this piece and a more traditional functional piece. Since we were in high school when we were friends and we haven't spoken till recently, it's hard for me to know. Well anyway, I'm just rambling and sniffling a little at finding an old friend again.

The answer has been provided for me. I just went down stairs to measure the piece, which is 8.5 h x 4 w x 3 w inches, and saw the bottom has an 'S' crack in it. The glaze is two overlapped, brown and chun plum. I guess she can sit in the garden and fill up with water and then the water can leak out of the bottom nicely. I'm the one who needs to lean on someone, which I don't often do, but really should. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  3. "Cherish friendship in your breast -
    New is good, but old is best;
    Make new friends, but keep the old;
    Those are silver, these are gold."

    Your post reminded me of this last stanza of an old poem by Joseph Parry. And yes, I think you should give your friend that leaning piece. It is an expression of your feeling...

  4. I like your vessel, which looked at first glance like a chocolate thin snowman, an image which suggests chocolate is slimming! Yes, I also have reconnected with a high school friend and we support each other over thousands of miles via the net. It's great to talk with folks who understand where we came from without any explanation.
