Three Ring Circus

Why is this post a three ring circus. See the pedestal? There are three rings for the pedestal foot. This boat shaped bowl begs to be picked up. The bowl is 3.5" h x 15" w x 9" w.

One small spot doesn't have any color. It does have a clear glaze so it's functional. I'll just have to pay closer attention when I texture the color.

I'll go down stairs and take a photo from the underside so you can see the feet. I like how the black glaze contrasts with the  colorful interior.

Here's the underside. My name is signed in one of the feet but I guess I could have glaze the other two. Hum. Disregard the finger prints on the black glaze. I guess black glaze is a lot like a black car, hard to keep clean. I want to make a pedestal bowl with a really tall and bold pedestal; got to put on my design cap.

Here's a blue mini pot, or windowsill pot.

Another mini pot with a flower. Stay tuned for even more pots. Had to get a bunch of pots made yesterday because I'm try to fill up another kiln load so I can get some student pots fired. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Nice bowl Linda. I have a gorgeous black glaze but it shows dust and water spots so it needs a little rub with a cloth instead of just drip dry after washing.

    1. Hi Dennis, thanks, I haven't used a dark shiny glaze before this I guess but this black really shows it. I think it showed even more cause I had just rubbed some Pam on a drape mold so my hands were all greasy, thanks for the tip about the dry cloth. I'll have to remember to put a tack micro cloth in my stash for shows and such.

  3. So pretty, and I think the 3 pedestal idea is a great one. Yes, I know how dark shiny glazes do...and I kind of avoid them.

    1. Hi Barb, thanks, this black glaze fits like a glove and it's the perfect neutral for the colors of the bowl so I'll have to use Dennis's tip.

  4. All very lovely! It's popular here for pedestal bowls to be rather monochromatic, with smooth design -- dark green is also popular, with all one green and a slightly lighter green for bowl's interior.

  5. Hi Kittie, thanks, by here do you mean Netherlands or North Carolina coast for the pedestal bowls. I'll have to try one in a monochromatic color and see how I like it. All black might be striking. although the bowl looks textured the texture is actually smooth on this one since I roll it after texturing it.
