Back to the Drawing Board

Before you get too excited by the beautiful canisters, more than several had cracks at the seams. Can someone please help me. I mitered the seams, scored and slipped, and scored over the seam and was very careful. they have cracked on the outside but not the inside of the of seam. They didn't have cracks after the bisque.

These three didn't have cracks. I just love how these turned out so I plan to make more till I get it right.

I like the colors, textures, and two different styles.

 Oh well onward and upward.

A couple of my ribbon vases, medium size. One of my collectors called them ribbon vases and I like that description.

This color is more of a tangerine rather than bright orange.

Here is a textured blue and brown platter.

And the mini tiles turned out better than I expected. Well off to the farmer's market this morning. Thanks for reading and for all of your comments.

  3. Excellent choices of glazes. Funny, one of our potters had cracks also which appeared to get worse as the bowls sat around, but hadn't had any cracks evident before. Not in the same places as yours, and a complete mystery because they were the same shape and made at the same time. I hate that!

    1. Hi Barb, thanks, I think it's the clay, little loafers, seams are particularly problematic, they apparently have switched their formula, John Britt posted something about it; I didn't worry about it because I didn't have any problems but now that I think about it, the rooster, cat, and dog cylinders also had cracks. I am going to switch to a different white clay body. I used Laguna Macabee in Florida and never had a problem with that clay.

  6. Good luck. These pesky little problems can be hard to solve.Apparently Custer Feldspar has less potassium than it used to and is causing some issues.

    1. Hi Dennis, thanks, that's what I read on a post by John Britt, it is so frustrating to work so hard and dry slowly and then have all these cracks, in the past I had the rooster, dog, and cat cylinders crack as well and I have yet to re-make them due to my frustration.

  8. Hi Suzi, thanks, these cracks have been recurring, I think it's the clay; I want to go back to the clay I was using in Florida, Axner/Laguna WC 901, will check with supplier on Monday.
