Wall Tiles, Baskets, and Glaze Fire

Finally I decided to take a risk and fire the glaze load. As it turned out the weather cooperated. We shall see how long it took to do the firing and if my electricity supply is adequate. While the kiln was firing I decided to make a couple of large wall tiles. Enamored with how the maple leaf bowls turned out, I thought to make tiles with the same motif. These are about 12 x 9 inches.

Here's a black one. When ready to glaze these I'll use a transparent with color over both.

This week I thought about displaying small plates and leaves in baskets for my farmer's market booth. Yesterday I decided to go to the flea market not holding much hope of finding any.

Sometimes I can't believe my luck; I found two really sturdy baskets. What do you think I should put inside the basket to display the pottery. Maybe some burlap material or excelsior? The kiln won't be cool enough to open till late tonight. I'm not sure how much time I'll have to take photos to show you, but I'll try. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Very cool baskets. Baskets are always good for display and storage. I like your burlap idea for the display purpose.

  2. Hi Turquoisemoon, thanks, aren't they nice and I think they are handmade, they have rope and grape vine incorporated on the sides of them. I think the burlap would be much less messier than the excelsior.

  3. Great baskets...we have one display of soap dishes, sort of on their sides, stacked inside a rectangular basket with a bit of muslin as the insert. Definitely wanting people to pick them up and look at them. Good wishes on your glaze firing! Those wall tiles look great too.

  4. Hi Barb, thanks, oh muslin is a good idea too, a lighter color might be better to show off the glaze colors better. I plan to use the mini erase easels for signs in or beside the baskets.

  5. Those are nice baskets. I would just place a cloth napkin in them, perhaps a red one?

  7. Hi Joanne, thanks, that pattern in the bowl sold right away last week, who knew something so dark would be so liked.

  8. Love those baskets. And suspect the perfect lining will change with the display. A moveable feast.
