Ribbon Vessels

Here's the interior of one of my ribbon vessels fresh out of the kiln.

Here's the exterior of the one above made of speckled stoneware. You can almost count the layers of ribbon and tell how tall these vessels are.

This vessel is white stoneware and is the nicest one of the group as far as glaze variation.

With some of these I experimented to see what a difference using the same glaze on speckled stoneware and white stoneware would make. This one is on speckled stoneware.

Same glaze as above on white stoneware.

 This is speckled stoneware.

This is a lavender celadon on speckled stoneware, not the best color to my eye but it has an earthy appeal with the speckles showing through.

A red glaze on white stoneware. This red really reflects the light.

Same glaze as above on speckled stoneware.

Same glaze as the first vessel but on white stoneware, not much glaze difference in the two. More to come as soon as I take the photos so stay tuned. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. Hi Sue, thanks, these have a really nice feel in the hands, a bit like holding a textured tumbler, easy to grasp with no risk of dropping them.

  7. Glaze makes all the difference in the world. Without it, ceramics would look rather boring.

    1. Hi Gigi, thanks, yes but some clay without glaze is nice in certain circumstances, say in some sculptures.

    1. Hi Michele, thanks, this is almost the last of the little loafers and trying to decide today if I switch back to Macabee but have to get it shipped from Florida or another smooth white clay; hoping fb give me some suggestions.
