Barney Says

Yesterday Gary was jiggling a couple of mice toys on a string for Barney. At one point Barney caught both of them and wouldn't let them go. Barney says, "these mice are mine". Barney has turned into the "king of the roost" around here. On cold days he comes in to take a nap and lounges in his favorite spots.

It's been chilly here in the mornings but we haven't had a killing frost yet. I plan to pick my more tender herbs and dry them; especially the Spanish tarragon which I'm quite partial to cooking with.

I've been putting off glazing the big pots trying to decide which glazes to use on which pot. Time will tell. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

PS  I never knew I could get priority boxes delivered right to my door and I never knew they came in different sizes, check out the internet for USPS. Also I never knew items could ship priority even in a non priority box. Oh and there are regional priority boxes, need to check into those too. You all probably knew all that but just in case.

  1. that cat has character :) thanks for the reminder to check out AusPost - they have made changes recently and I should see what they are! Sounds like USPS is working well.

  2. Hi Anna, thanks, yes it's working out well with USPS. Barney is a real character; more like a dog than a cat, doesn't use a littler box, scratches at the door to go out. Ha. a good thing though cause we don't have to clean a litter box. ha.

  3. Barney has obviously taken over your house!
Sometimes you need to stop and stare at a pot for a while before glazing.
We had two nights of frost back in october, none since then. It's made bringing my plants in enjoyable, rather than a mad dash to avoid a killing frost!

  4. Yes, the PO is trying to compete with FedEx and UPS so they are being helpful. However, priority mail has no garantee of 2 day delivery, that costs extra even though you think you are paying for it with priority.

    1. Hi Lori, thanks, I do like having a box provided and the fact that priority has tracking and $50 insurance included. Have had good luck with the usps for shipping so far.

    2. Yes, that is nice, I’m just saying that when you pay for 2 day priority it may take longer than 2 days to get there and the PO doesn’t guarantee 2 days, you just pay for it and hope. I had a conversation with a PO employee about that one day when a package was late. It’s in the fine print.

  5. Hi Suzi, thanks, I know what you mean about a mad dash, seems I am pushing the envelope on those herbs myself. Ha. Also I have some lemon grass in pots and hope to put them in plastic bags and bring them in to keep them from freezing

  6. It's so convenient to have the boxes delivered! Last week I ordered 50 - 12x12x12 and 25 - 7x7x6. I need to be prepared for the holiday season. We often order a pickup for priority packages via the USPS website. Our carrier will also take any non-priority boxes if we leave those out too. If you have Etsy orders, and buy your postage through them, the insurance bumps up to $100 for priority mail.

  7. Hi Michele, thanks, oh I am wondering if those are some of the sizes I ordered, hum, will have to check as the more square sizes are better for what I ship. didn't know that about the etsy orders and postage via them.

  10. We had a family cat named Barney for many years. My kids still speak fondly of his little snits when he felt neglected. He would lie on top of the fridge or the etagere and turn his back to show his displeasure.

  11. I thought I posted something earlier~~~must have hit the wrong button. You can print up your own postage labels also through USPS on clik&ship for free, just have a good scale to weigh your box. If it was small I would leave it in the mail box and my carrier would pick it up, or if too big I would leave a note asking him to come back to the house that I had a few boxes~~~It worked out super for Ebay and I am sure it would work for your items or Esty~~~

  12. Barney is a lovely boy; and looks very determined to remain nestled where he was, claiming the mice as his and his alone! :)

My two furry rascals are indoor rascals, and only are out very briefly each morning. I let them out when I get out of bed, but within less than 30 minutes they scamper back inside again...and inside they remain until the exercise is repeated once more the following morning. Remy, my male cat is my alarm clock. He wakes both Shama and me up every morning. He nominated himself to take on the role...who was I to deny him such an important responsibility? :)

  13. Cats rule.
Which they know, and wish they didn't have to keep reminding us...

  14. Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, yes they do rule and need constant admiration to be at their best. Ha.
