Freeze Dried Tarragon & Pottery Books

With a hard freeze coming I cut all the Spanish tarragon the other day. I got five big bunches from two plants. Yesterday it was warm on the back porch so I put the bunches on a board to dry in the sun on top of the kiln. Later I forgot about them. This morning I remembered they were still on the back porch. It's 25 F or -4 C. Maybe I've succeeded in making freeze dried tarragon. Hope so. I hate to think the herb is wasted now. What do you think?

Note:  Perhaps I wasn't clear in above paragraph; the kiln is not on; I placed the board on top of the kiln because the sun was shining there.

Forgotten in the back of a closet under the stairway I found my pottery books and more. We've lived here two months shy of two years and I'm just now going to unpack them. It's indoor work and sock wearing weather that's for sure. Ha.

Here's a box full of journals or some such. What will I discover?

Two more boxes and an errant foot. Wonder what's in these two? Stay tuned. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Your herbs should be fine, the plant may have even survived the cold, mine always do. But I normally try to avoid drying anything, or even placing anything on top if the kiln, the manufacture normally recommends avoiding that.

    1. Hi Lori, thanks, Spanish tarragon is tender so I had to pick it, the kiln wasn't on when I put the board with the herbs there, the sun was low in the sky and it was shining on the kiln so that's why I set the board there with the herbs, normally I don't put anything on top of the kiln.

  2. How cool (pun intended). But I'd wonder if you have to keep the freeze dried Tarragon frozen now. Enjoy finding new/old treasures in those boxes.

  5. It sounds as if you have a treasure hunt (minus the dragons) in store when you open the boxes.

  6. Perhaps just put that lot of herbs straight into your freezer - that might be the way to go.

    1. Hi Lee, thanks, the leaves already seem to be dry. I am going to try and strip them from the branches and package them up.
