Seeing Red

Seeing red this morning, red glazes that is.
12 x 12 x 3.5 inches

This large red bowl was a commission piece to be picked up this weekend or next.

The customer requested this random texture which I used on another bowl; but they wanted this red glaze.

9 x 9 inches

They also ordered a plate with black and red. Some time ago I made a plate with black and blue and they loved the hand brush marks and asked for the same technique but with the red and black. The colors are made with mason stain and underlglaze and there's a clear satin glaze over the top. Hope they like the plate. I wish the red showed up more but the other plate only had subtle blue just like this one has subtle red. If they want more red I can always make another, we shall see.

I also glazed a couple of platters and small bowls with the same glaze as the big red bowl. These sets are perfect for serving chips and dip or vegetables and dip. If you recall one of my customers gave me the idea to pair these two pieces together.

3 x 3 inches

For this firing I squeezed in this small bowl and glazed it with this matt red glaze. It's a very unusual color of red. What color or shade of red would you call this? Many matt glazes are wonderfully soft to the touch as is this one. I have to let this color grow on me for a while and think how to use the color to it's best advantage.

Just back from Kris Kringle got down to 37 F. Back tomorrow and it should be much warmer. We'll be there between 10 am and 3 pm, thank goodness. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

That final red? Lipstick red is how I would describe it.

  3. I happen to like red, as it is my favorite color. The chip and dip set looks nice and the wavy bowl does too. Good luck with the sales.

  5. Linda, I'm not a big fan of red... blues and greens are my colors, but I do prefer the wine red to the Christmas red. But this is definitely the season for reds! Good luck with your sales!
