Crochet

In the dead of winter I thought of crochet. I wanted to make a scarf for Gary to wear because the cold air makes him cough. I also wanted to make a scarf to wear around my neck. Now that nicer weather is here I finally bought some skeins and a book. Of course I picked turquoise and purple some of my favorite colors. I taught myself to crochet 30 years ago. I even made up some patterns for doilies with cotton thread. My grandmother used to make crochet doll dresses, pot holders, and toaster covers.

Later I noticed Oasis has a crochet class so I've signed up for one day a week. I've been a bit low this winter and I think I need to get out more. I'm looking forward to relearning. I figured this is something light weight I can carry with me if I'm in the car. I like to keep busy and work with my hands and it doesn't hurt to keep the mind active by learning new things. Last night I fell asleep with a few clay ideas in my head; I'm sure they will be coming soon. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. My mother and Memere were knitters and crocheters. I never had the patience for it. Glad they did because I have lots of things they made to remind me of them, now that they are gone. Have fun at your class. It's good to get out of the house.

  4. Linda, Crochet is a great pastime. It's good to have something to do with your hands and it's easier (for me) than knitting while watching TV. Scarves, dishcloths, and shopping bags are not hard to make. Enjoy!
And you mentioned 'clay ideas' coming into your head at night... me too. It's all I can do to stay in bed when these thoughts start popping in.

    1. Hi Rian, thanks, I have never tried knitting and I think it might be difficult for me but crochet seems like one can loose themselves in it.

  5. When I learned how to crochet, it was long distance to call my mother with questions, but not to call my grandmother, who lived just a far from my college dorm, but on the other side of Cleveland, not in another town. Long time ago. Have fun!

  7. I like crochet better than knitting - easier to go back if you miss a stitch :) the patterns can exercise the mind too... have fun and I hope you are back to clay as well before too long.

    1. Hi Anna, thanks, I can't imagine taking up knitting but you are right about just pulling the yarn if a mistake is made with crochet.

  8. I've not tried ("tried" being the operative word) crocheting since I was a teenager. I was hopeless then...and would be now. :)
