Olive, Pickle or Cracker Trays

While the kiln was firing I worked on some trays. The four above are about 12 x 3 inches and would be good for olives, pickles or crackers. Maybe olives could be a little narrower. I'll see when it shrinks in the firings.

The two above are about 10 x 4 inches and would be suitable for appetizers. Of course any can be used for whatever you need them for. I'm using speckled tan stoneware for these pieces. Tomorrow I'll unload the kiln and glaze the work. I plan to glaze fire on Wednesday if the weather holds. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Another tray never goes astray.
These would also look good with plants in pots on them, protecting delicate surfaces.

  2. Hi Sue, thanks, what a great idea, I am just glazing some of my tiny pots but they have no holes, next time I'll make some with holes.

  3. Hi Linda,
Good to catch up with you and always lovely to new work going through the kiln. Sorry that you have had BP issues, such things are no fun at all and can be a rough ride physically and emotionally, I do hope that you are able to get the BP well managed. I'm sorry not to have dropped by for such a long time, I've had some health issues of my own (that I haven't talked about on the blog) that have slowed me down a lot over recent months. I have had to try to conserve what limited energy I have for getting things done in the studio.

  4. Hi Peter, thanks, I know what you mean, I have been in a slump for over six months and hadn't done much with pottery. Now I am finally having to get cracking because the farmer's market is coming up and the recent medical bills will surely be piling up; I hope to see much more this season so I have been adding to my repertoire with some driftwood sailboats and driftwood houses and native american inspired pendants and soy candles in my mini vases; we shall see. I hope you are doing better; it's hell to get old isn't it. You talk about energy, have you had your thyroid checked. Kind and healing wishes to you and Laura and Nigella.

  5. Hi Linda,
Your driftwood houses and sailboats are gorgeous, I love the lively, happy colours!
The health thing turns out to be something rather rare with a crazy long name, Essential Thrombocythaemia (ET for short!), and is making me rather tired because my blood has far too many platelets so things are not working as well as they should. I'm still trying to achieve a balance between rest, exercise, and work, it is a bit of a challenge! Good to have got the wood fired kiln going again though, it gives me something to look forward to.

  6. Hi Peter, thanks, oh Peter I am so sorry about the onset of this problem for you, if it's not one thing it's another it seems; I hope you can find a solution to this problem. I remember years ago with my thyroid problem and no doctor even thinking of testing me for it, after 10 different doctors finally one found the problem, and I was almost dead at that point, then my back problems for several years, so far, knock on wood, no problems on that front. Now BP, I plan to kick that problem to the curb as well; so please have hope you will overcome this and in the future you will look back at it as a memory best forgotten. Good the wood fired kiln does not have to go to such a high temp, am I correct in that ? By the way, just today we obtained a cache of tools at dirt bottom prices that we will sell for a profit to help forestall all the medical bills, things are looking up today for us any way, please take heart. thinking of you from across the pond.
