Opened the Kiln

Just opened up the kiln and will unload today. I'll post more photos tomorrow or the next day. The pendants on the left side of the kiln I made in Florida and bisque fired. I finally got around to glaze firing them. They are very thin and extremely lightweight.

For the snowman ornaments I put the cobalt on after the bisque and when I applied the white celadon glaze it smeared the cobalt a bit. Next time I'll put the cobalt on before the bisque. I have a hard time regulating how much cobalt to use when mixing up such a small amount. I wonder if there are mini measuring spoons? Ornaments sell well any time of the year so I recently made several batches to keep up with demand. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Looking good. I imagine opening the kiln is always both exciting and a tad anxious.

  3. Opening the kiln is like a birthday; you don't always know what you will get, but it will probably be interesting! This looks like a good one.
There is some comfort in knowing that I am not the only one to put off glazing.
I have several sets of tiny measuring spoons. I got mine at a kitchen shop at an outlet mall, but I bet you can find them online.
