Call of the Black Capped Chickadee

Every day this week I've heard this beautiful two note call from a bird in the forest surrounding my home. I finally figured out it's the call of the Black Capped Chickadee. I am amazed this beautiful piercing call comes from such a small bird.  The chickadee eats mostly caterpillars but will eat seeds and berries in winter and often uses a cache to store food. So glad to have a chickadee for a neighbor.

Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. I love chickadees. Cheeky little fellows; walk around my feet to get seeds on the porch.

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks, with Barney here I can't feed the birds he's too good of a hunter, but how lucky you are to have them walking around your feet.

    1. Hi Sue, thanks, yes I love their call, they most often just use that two note call and it is so loud, perhaps because we live against a hillside and it might echo back to me.
