Stir Fried Chinese Long Beans

You know I like trying new foods. Saturday I saw some really long beans at the farmer's market. I learned they're Chinese Long Beans or Asparagus beans.

I decided to stir fry the beans and I chopped them into 1 1/2 inch pieces. But I don't have a wok; so I decided to use my cast iron frying pan. Cast iron is a great heat conductor so I was able to get the pan nice and hot to stir fry the beans.

I sauteed finely chopped garlic and ginger and added one medium hot rooster spur pepper.

Next I added the chopped Chinese long beans, sesame seeds and a dash of sesame oil. Stir often till beans are tender about 5 minutes or so.

The beans were delicious. Don't be afraid to try new foods, the risk is always worth it. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. I grew these one year in my little last garden...and loved how you get a meal out of two or three beans. They taste great too!

  5. I have noticed these in our local Asian supermarket, along with several other vegetables I am not familiar with. Thank you Linda, you have inspired me to try this dish and will put them on my shopping list.

  6. Hi Denise, thanks, nothing better than fresh from the farm; with the internet it's easy to look up certain unfamiliar foods and find inspiration for recipes too.
