Flock of Birds Flew In

I was inspired by Rian's cheeky chickens to make some birds of my own. This flock of birds flew in this week. I think maybe their beaks are a little too long for the size of the bird. My birds are solid so they'll have to dry a good long while before I can fire them.

I remember the bluebirds my friend Connie used to make. Sadly she passed away a number of years ago. Connie's bluebirds are made of high fire stoneware and glazed with flambe blue. Connie and I took college ceramic classes together in California. I was thinking of Connie when I made my birds above. I'm sure there will be a bluebird or two in this flock. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. THey are all precious, the blue ones especially because of the memory of your friend they carry. Just think, that may be how someone thinks of your birds (remembering someone who gave them to them) one day! I made a blue bird of happiness and gave it to my minister, and he keeps it on his desk.

  2. Hi Barbara, thanks, beautiful sentiments about the birds, and they do seem to bring happiness; I know they have been done a lot but more birds in the world is a good thing I think.

  5. An entire flock of blue birds. They are so beautiful. We have them here, where there is enough meadow.

  7. Hi Linda,
The little birds are lovely, and you can have all sorts of fun with colour! I like clay birds, they make nice cheerful companions around the house and garden! Just a thought, but I wondered if you could take out a plug of clay from them underneath with a wire loop tool so that the birds are easier to dry? The paper weights that I make are hollow inside, and I have made a printed label that I stick over the hole underneath.

I'm hoping I have solved the recent problem I had posting comments on blogs... My browser settings had got too secure it would seem, and I had to enable it to accept 3rd party cookies for the comments to work! Ha, the marvels of modern communication!

Have a lovely Christmas and New Year!

    1. Hi Peter, thanks, oh I'll have to try hollowing them out a bit and I like the idea of a label on the underside. Cookies - I know about them but have no idea how they work. I have a blocker for ads and don't know how I set it up; some news sites won't let me read them if I block their ads and so I just have to move on.
