Vogel State Park

This winter has been colder and more cloudy than usual so we've been cooped up in the house for too many days. We hesitate to go to public places because we're trying to avoid getting the flu. But yesterday we decided to drive to Vogel State Park less than fifteen miles from our home. Above is a photo of Lake Trahlyta named after a Cherokee maiden buried a few miles from the park.

This is a photo of the spillway from the lake. The lake has a swimming beach and launch for non motorized boats. There are rentals of paddle boats, kayaks, and paddle boards available in season. There is also a fishing pier. The lake contains bass and bream and is routinely stocked with trout.

There are 103 tent and RV campsites and 35 cabins. Above is a view of one of the cabins. At the park is a general store, miniature golf, horseshoe pit, volleyball net, and a Civilian Conservation Corp museum. The park is 233 acres and was established in 1931 and mostly constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corp.

There are four hiking trails including one around the lake. Information and photos taken from the link to the park. We enjoyed our time at the park and plan to go back real soon. About the only folks at the park were maintenance workers and those working in the store. The beauty of visiting a park in the winter is the view through the woods since all the leaves have fallen from the deciduous trees. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. When I lived in FL with my sons, we went several times to camp there! Lovely time had by all, especially mountain air compared to humid heat in the summer. Saw some deer if I remember right.

    1. Hi Barbara, thanks, we are trying to visit the places nearby that folks often say they never go to see, only out of towners.

  2. It's lovely, Linda. The CCC built much of the local part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park by me. Before it was a National Park. Back in the thirties, when the government was involved with people.

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks, I wish the government would start something similar to that here, perhaps they could couple it with the pathway to citizenship for the dreamers, if only I had the ear of the president
