Wild Violets in Bloom

The wild violets are in bloom at the corner of our road.  They are on a East facing slight slope and the soil looks rather barren since it was probably graded when they put the road in. Yet they seem to thrive there and have spread further than last year. They bloom for three or four weeks.
However, the leaves don't look like violet leaves (leaves in center not on the left). I've discovered this variety is called Bird's Foot Violet or Mountain Pansy. Click the link to see how the leaves show this is the variety.
We moved here four years ago. How times flies. Here's a recipe for sweet violet syrup which I made our first year here. Today we have sunny skies with big puffy clouds; so grateful for the warmer weather. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. What did you do with the sweet violet syrup? I'm salivating thinking of Belgium waffles. Or southern biscuits!

  2. It's not warm here. About 38. I am so ready for spring. However, I think we'll have split pea soup tomorrow, and that's worth waiting for.

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks, we have gone from cold to warm and I just planted some tomatoes yesterday and garlic chives since I thought I had garlic but had onion chives. I am going to make split pea soup too but I got yellow split peas because they had more nutrition in them -= we shall see how they look and taste being pale yellow.

  4. Pretty things, and not a variety we have here. Our violets are one of our first spring blooms and I do love them.
