Another Good Day

Yesterday was another good day at the market. I need to make more of these plates, also bowls and leaves and lots of other work.
Day before yesterday we went out on the lake again. We went much further and I felt a little better this time. Not so afraid of being over deep water. We turned on the fish finder which came with the boat. We could see schools of fish below, both small and large fish. Can't wait to try our hand at fishing, perhaps next time. The fish finder also tells us the depth of the water: 100 feet, 48 feet, 91 feet, 8 feet; water depth fluctuates quite a bit even in a short distance.

We drove quite a distance on the lake around an island and past lots of coves. On our way back to the dock we noticed the shoreline is covered with trees. Each cove looks exactly the same as the last one. I asked Gary which cove we should take, he said this one. I said no we haven't gone far enough. Note to new boaters look for landmarks as you head out; you will need them when you are finding your way back.
Luckily I had made a mental note of several landmarks and was able to tell Gary what they were. We had passed three buoys along the shore and there was a large home on the opposite shore from our boat dock with trees limbed up behind it. Otherwise we would have spent hours looking for the dock we launched from. From the water the views are completely different than from shore; landmarks will be your cues of where you are in the water. There is a GPS for boating, we may want to invest in one, we shall see.
This is a swallow swooping down for mosquitos or water bugs along the water. Gary said he will need to starting thinking like a pilot again, views from the air or a boat are completely different than views from shore. I probably instinctively made a note of landmarks from when I used to hike in the woods alone as a child. Hiking alone I could only rely upon myself to find my way back home. We each have skills in our past we can rely upon for present needs. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  2. You'd better start taking note of landmarks or you might take a wrong turn and end up down this way! :)

You'll have many fun fishing days, I am sure.

  3. I never understood how boaters got back to shore. A mystery.

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks, other lakes I've been on have been cleared along the shore, but this one has lots of coves completely covered in trees, very easy to get lost.
