A friend who had a s...I have one sad tale to tell. A friend who had a scrap of mahogany cut it down and I glued a little figure to it, not sure which glue. The wood eventually let go, and she fell over (standing on one foot I think). The glue had worked, but the wood itself split. And that's a hardwood too. It looked good for a while, but I think the idea of a depression, plus your horse will be more balanced standing...so go for whatever design you like. I'd just recommend not having any finish on the wood where it's glued (again a threat for it to come apart eventually).
