Didn't Do A Darn Thing

Sometimes my plans go by the wayside; yesterday I didn't do a darn thing. In the front yard the Florida native maple trees we planted last year are blooming and the bees were gathering their pollen. I did plant my snow peas and radishes but nothing was accomplished in the studio. I sat in my chair and stared out the window and thought about making something but I didn't. A cardinal came by and pecked at the window.

I opened the window to let in some fresh air and noticed the robins arrived early this year. The robins were hopping from branch to branch in the Carolina cherry laurel and happily eating the berries. I could hear what seemed like, what probably was, hundreds of them singing in the tree and in the wooded lot next to our home. I just looked back at my post from last year and the robins arrived on February 5th, so maybe they're not so early. I guess Spring has sprung. I can't believe we've lived here almost two years. The time seems so long and yet so short. Happy February and White Rabbit to you. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Happy February to you.If you get too much spring send some north to the rest of us.

  2. Sometimes taking a day off is really very rejuvenating. Happy Feb & white rabbit to you too.

  3. Hello Linda:
Although the weather suddenly seems to have taken an Arctic turn here in the UK, nevertheless, there are signs of spring all around.

The Cardinal at the window is so sweet and the trees seem to be positively bursting forth with life. What a wonderful time to just sit back and enjoy!!!

  4. I can't blame you for taking a day off and enjoying your surroundings... having visited you I know how beautiful your yard is. Jeff and I can't believe we are coming up on a two year moving anniversary either... seems as though we are still not unpacked!

  5. White rabbit and good for you...we all need some down time.

  6. How nice to have the birds come right up to you to have their picture taken! None of mine do that!

  7. For some reason your words have reminded me of the book, "The Wind in the Willows". It is something to do with the restlessness of early Spring. A time of cleaning, dusting, sorting, and.... dreaming as the world around wakes up. The flowers and birds are beautiful aren't they!

  8. Not doing anything made a lot of sense, what with bees buzzing and birds chirping (pecking at windows) and that wonderful 'so on' that makes for a beautiful day.

  9. Happy February first. Where the heck did January go?
I envy your growing season. I will have to wait a while here before I plant my sugar snap peas.

  10. Hi Linda I like the new header on your blog. That mug and pitcher on your previous post are definitely worth revisiting. If you remember scrubbing them it must have been after they were bisque fired. Cobalt is tricky - easily too dark or patchy coverage.. Nice for spring to be starting over your way - we are having Such a Wet summer :^( still better than the 10yr drought we had prior to the rain.

  11. Hi Dennis, thanks, one thing about mother nature she's sure to bring you some Spring one of these days, the robins are in indication of things to come.

    Hi Teresa, thanks so much.

Hi Lori, thanks, sometimes I just feel guilty about doing so but then again not too guilty. Ha.

Hi Jane and Lance, thanks, yes this time of year sometimes Spring fever hits. Ha.

Hi Michele, thanks, well I only wish I had a few more flowers but then I'd have to take care of them and wouldn't have as much time for clay and cooking.

Hi Meredith, thanks, I have much more down time than I used to, different for my usual self.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, the windows have a film so the birds don't see me behind the glass and aren't frightened, you should see my cats when they do that.

Hi Peter, thanks, I think you have hit it on the nose with the Wind in the Willows, a restless sort of feeling and observing nature waking around me.

Hi Kittie, thanks, yes the so on, I wish there was an arboreteum near by I would love to take a stroll there and just walk and think. I might have to make a plan to do that.

Hi Patti, thanks, I remember Arkansas has some bitterly cold February and then it warms up quickly.

Hi Anna, thanks, I am changing the header with each post now and I remembered the cardinal wall tile - thought it would be perfect. Yes it must have been a bisque item I was scrubbing I can't imagine greenware would take that kind of abuse. Oh I do love Spring so much blooming and so many birds singing. We haven't had much rain here at all and fire danger is high, may get some today I hope so. A ten year drought that's terrible.

I love suggestions, questions, critiques, thanks for your comment
