A Little Dab Will Do You

Are you ever hungry for a snack but don't want to make something elaborate? That's what happened the other day. So I fixed myself a rice cracker with some almond butter and a dollop of apricot preserves. The almond butter wasn't inexpensive, but at the rate I'm using it, it will last for more than a year. A little dab will do you. I keep it in the refrigerator and it doesn't get solid in there either.

These leaf dishes are perfect for serving a light snack and it turns out they are good for many other uses too. At the farmer's market one of the folks who purchased several of my leaf dishes came by to thank me. It seems the woman uses a leaf dish for her tea bags and one for tea lights and she said her husband uses a leaf dish for his teeth. Now every time I think of my leaf dishes I'll have more than visions of sugar plums in my head. Ha. That's the beautyberry above which is now in full radiant color. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Good that it doesn't go solid. The honey in my fridge is so hard it needs strength and a knife! :0)

  2. I love apricot preserves on toast. I've never heard of beautyberry before but I see where it got that name.

  3. Apricot preserves are wonderful and so is almond butter. I don't have your restraint; I'd be making entire sammies, and probably eating two in a row.

  4. almond butter is so yummy! Many years ago when I worked in a community based childcare center that had a USDA food program, we got CASES of almond butter. They served the best almond butter and jelly sandwiches.

  5. I knew I needed to get something from the store...rice crackers. So I'll just use those clunky rice cakes with white cheddar, spread the almond butter all the way to the edge...they are about 3 times the size of a rice cracker...but you're right, one of the best tastes around. And...I got fresh figs at the Tailgate this morning.

  6. I love rice cracker with peanut butter and raisins- so good. I use small dishes all the time- so useful.

  7. Hello Linda:
Almond butter is something entirely new to us. It sounds delicious as we love all almond flavoured things and so will try to look out for it.

  8. Nice little snack on a beautiful leaf.

  9. Hi Carole Ann, thanks, this is the first time I've had almond butter and I'm glad it doesn't go solid, I know what you mean about honey.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, these are all fruit and not much sugar I think. We had a tree when I was in the 7th grade and my mom made some apricot jam then and I've loved it ever since. At the time we had it on graham crackers, yummy.

Hi Joanne, thanks, well I wasn't that hungry, perhaps if I was I'd have had a huge sandwich.

Hi Michele, thanks, wow how unusual to get cases of the almond butter, it's really good for you and so many are allergic to peanuts I thought this would be a good substitute.

Hi Barbara, thanks, white cheddar you're talking my language.

Hi Meredith, thanks, peanut butter and raisins, never tried it, but how about peanut butter and bananas?

Hi Jane and Lance, thanks, it has a mild flavor, like I said it wasn't cheap but I figure it will last a long time, this one was organic and raw so that may have added to the price. Every time I go to the grocery store I try to add one luxury item to the cart and this was it for this week.

Hi Elna, thanks, yes it's fun to have a snack on a special plate, almost like the imaginary tea parties I had when I was a child.
