Bare Bones

I found this skull, which is about 2 1/2 inches in length from a junkyard I visited a couple of years back. I have no idea which creature the skull is from, do you? A rat, a squirrel, a raccoon perhaps?

I intended to make a shrine for it but never did, but I'm going to pack it up and perhaps sometime in the future the skull will find a place to reside.

Meanwhile we're getting down to the bare bones of our existence, ridding ourselves of many possessions. We sold our king bed which is another heavy and bulky item to move.

We're mourning the loss of some things but at the same time it's rather freeing releasing material goods. Things are a lot different when they are stripped clean. We'll have a garage and indoor sale tomorrow so we must get busy organizing for that, more later. This post is part of Mud Colony what's happening in the studio. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. I rather envy you dispossessing yourselves of the material accumulations of your life. Very Taoist. And I am sure that you will make a lovely shrine for the skull..

    Best Wishes

  2. You suppose ET didn't make it home?
I have been gone too long on my break. Now I will have to back read to find where you are moving to. Moving is the worst chore ever but it really cleans out all the stuff we collect.
I'd hang on to that skull however.

  3. That skull is a treasure. Someday you will make the perfect shrine for it.

  4. Meanwhile, I am adding to my art collection by buying 2 oil paintings from Bali. Check out my blog for photos. Lol. Love it!

  5. Have a successful sale and a great new adventure.

  6. Good luck with the sales. May your burdens be lessened and your wallet be fattened.

  7. Happy trails to youuuuuu! And here's my wishes along with Dennis and Lori...does that make us fairy god mothers? No clue for skull.

  8. Sometimes it's hard to get rid of stuff, but once gone you feel much lighter.
I am looking forward to reading about your next adventure!

  9. I love your bedroom decor! It will be interesting to see what you come up with in your new location. It's such fun to find the perfect colors and furnishings. If you do it just once, you deprive yourself of the fun of all the other possibilities!

  10. It sounds so exciting, this moving on to a new adventure.

I am going out to a store called "The Bone Room" out in Berkeley/Albany--perhaps you heard or visited it while you lived here? I am sure you will make a lovely shrine for the skulls in the future. Actually, just keeping them safe and wrapped is an enshrining of sorts.

Best wishes for a fantastic sale!

  11. i think that it is a Cat's skull Madame Star ! ^^

  12. I am getting excited for you :)

  13. Oh wow. How empowering and how cleansing it must feel to discard 'stuff'. I really need to follow your example.

  14. After reading your post, I also want to get rid of a thing or two. : D It's a bit like cleansing. I hope you will have roaring sales!

  15. Hi Christine, thanks, yes Taoist.

Hi Patti, thanks, we have not decided where we are moving, we are going to travel a bit.

Hi Suzi, thanks, I was rather amazed to find it intact at the junk yard and if you saw all the metal it was really a miracle it survived.

Hi Gigi, thanks, oh I can't wait to see what you got.

Hi Dennis, thanks, no matter what it will all be fun.

Hi Lori, thanks, oh the wallet yes and the burdens more so.

Hi Barbara, thanks, oh all bloggers are fairy godmothers and godfathers to one another.

Hi Michele, thanks, yes for a while I was having a hard time, now I just want to purge it all, well most of it.

Hi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, oh you know I love decorating. A little decorating tip, those lamps have painted shades to pick up the blue of the comforter, and the photos were taken in Baja and I made prints of them and framed them to go above the bed, we had them in our last home too, but next time, something different I think will be good.

Hi Charlene, thanks, is that the store that they talk about on the TV recently? I had never been there when I lived in the Bay Area but it has been years since I lived there before 1985.

Hi Lenore, thanks, oh a cat, poor thing, hopefully it died of old age without suffering. Now I know what type of shrine to make.

Hi Dee, thanks, a bit early for me to be excited, but perhaps in a couple more weeks I'll jump for joy.

Hi Elephant's Child, thanks, yes cleansing and since we are moving I can't acquire any more stuff. Ha.

Hi Midori, thanks, yes getting rid of stuff somehow unclutters the mind as well.

I love suggestions, questions, critiques, thanks for your comment
