While I'm waiting for the kiln to cool I've been trying to think of a display for my ornaments. I googled wood xmas tree display and look what I found. For less than $10 I can build the tree above. Click on the source to be directed to the site and instruction on how to make it.
Update, see this post for details on drilling for the dowels.
Usually I put my ceramic ornaments in a basket with a sign for their cost. I think this wood tree display would give some nice height to my table display. Perhaps the base can be weighted to keep it from tipping over in a wind. Any ideas for that? I made these ornaments in Florida and they're long gone.
Meanwhile I tried sanding one of the plates with the cobalt on it and it came off. Yippee, thanks for all of your advice. Now I'll try sanding the bowls and see if I can get the cobalt off of those. I am so anxious to open this kiln because the rooster bank and the cat sculpture and the dog and rooster jars are in this load. I decided to glaze the heads on the jar lids; we shall see if it works. Stay tuned for finished work. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

Love the ornament tree...yes on weighting the base, but no ideas. You do make pretty ornaments!
ReplyDeleteYour ornaments are beautiful! and the tree would benefit from weights. I found an old cast iron mug holder at a flea market and it works great for any hanging items I make.
ReplyDeleteHi Barb, thanks, isn't this a cool way to display ornaments.
ReplyDeleteHi Pam, thanks, what a great idea the mug holder, cast iron is nice as it's heavy.
Hey Linda. I'd guess $20 but it is still a nice display If the base is the widest part, all the weight will be inside the tipping point and hold it down instead of letting it come up. Other option is a pretty sandbag that fits around it or a weight off a barbell if you have any. If you make one ,let us see your version.
ReplyDeleteHi Dennis, thanks, the website said $10 maybe prices have gone up, ha, could be used for pendants or mugs too even hanging tiles, good point about center of balance.
ReplyDeletewill post once I get it made, trying to see if I can get Gary to make it while I glaze and load. Ha. we shall see

ReplyDeleteLove that tree - though my obsessed self would hang earrings on it.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the great reveal when you open the kiln.
Hi Sue, thanks, it's good for earrings too. Ha.
