A Mouse in the House

Yesterday we rescued yet another meadow vole and released him out-of-doors but last night a mouse got away. Now we have a mouse in the house. We have no idea where the mouse is hiding. Barney is working overtime this holiday season. Gary said he hopes the mouse isn't pregnant. Eeeek!

Gary ran here and there trying to catch the little mouse. Even though the mouse paused every so often and was not that quick on his tiny little feet he eluded capture over and over again. As the tiny mouse was running I noticed his feet looked so thin and delicate I was amazed they could actually support his body. There are actually several books called A Mouse in the House. Hum, perhaps I should be reading those books. I may have to think about blocking off Barney's cat door. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Getting some exercise there, eh? Barney is just looking out for you'all, in case it's cold and you get hungry.

  2. I must say I'm not to fond of having a mouse in our house, but even though my wife and I see one now and then, I refuse to kill them. On the other hand, though, there have been several times our dog will bring up a dead mouse from our basement and drop it on our kitchen floor, looking up at my wife or me, like as if he was saying, aren't you proud of me! My wife at times calls him our cat dog.

    1. Hi Lon, thanks, I am not too fond of this either, and there is plenty to eat since Barney has his dry food at the wait constantly.

  3. Linda, our cats wouldn't know what to do if they saw a mouse in the house... probably run and hide. They will play with geckos that sneak in under the doors, but they would never eat one... just play until the poor thing quit moving. (I do rescue them if found quick enough) That picture of the Mouse in the House book is wonderful! I love the illustration.

  4. I can remember my father pulling apart my mother's sewing machine after a mouse chased by one of our cats ran to ground in it. And have captured and escorted outside more than one mouse myself.

  5. If you block his door, Barney will howl you awake at night, and you won't know if he needs another mouse or wants to use the loo.

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks that's why we got the cat door in the first place, because Barney doesn't howl but he does come up to us and with one claw keep scratching till we let him out and he would always come to me because Gary won't get up and I wasn't getting any sleep un distrubed.
