New Home and Studio

If all goes according to plan, central Florida near Inverness will be our new home and my future studio in about two weeks. We decided to move here for several reasons. The warm, moist climate is easier on aging bones.

I planned on visiting potters along the way, but truth be told my back hasn't been good at all. Traveling here I had to stop about once an hour to get out of the car and walk around. Sleeping on RV mattresses and riding in a car for long distances have taken a toll. Once we get settled I hope things improve and I can take a trip up the Eastern seaboard. We really want to drive up to New Hampshire to visit some of Gary's relatives and visit potters along the way.

We wanted to get a newer home without immediate need of changes and improvements. Instead we opted for a home we could afford with a pool so we can take advantage of low impact exercise; one with a little space around it (for barrel and pit firings), and a place large enough for a studio inside the home (to reduce utility consumption in winter and summer).

We hope in the long run we've made the right decision. I'll show photos after we move in and make a few changes so you can see before and after shots. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

  7. I love your choice. I mentioned before how much I liked the Inverness area. Think you will love it there.
Pool is great idea. I have an iffy back also and swimming would be great for it.
    Looking forward to the pictures.

  8. Thanks all for your warm wishes!

As soon as we get settled you have an open invitation to come for visits - and I REALLY MEAN YOU ARE INVITED TO COME FOR A VISIT !

This winter had me thinking each one of you might enjoy a visit here for a bit of warm respite.

Gary still has to go back to California to get the Treasure Bus and bring it back here, so we have the last big hurdle to get through with that.

I hope to get a kiln up and running asap and fire the backlog of work since I have a tremendouos amount of plans and ideas for more clay projects.

    More later.

  9. I had a feeling you were going to end up in Florida, you were spending way too much time in one place:)
Gerry and I thought we wanted to move to the Mts. when he retires but this winter has convinced us that warmer climates might be better! Look forward to a tour of your new home.

  18. Congratulations on your new home! I love the gulf of Florida, there's so much to explore along the coast, especially heading south towards the Everglades. I have a pool and maintain it myself - but the season is short and it seems that as soon as I open it, it's time to close it. Let me know if you need tips on maintaining a pool and how to save $$ on chemicals.

  20. Hi Sue, thanks, I may be contacting you about saving $$ after we close. Gary has maintained pools and spas before and we are researching a salt system, etc. to see where we might reduce work and dollars.

Hi Jerry, thanks, nice to hear from you; hope you are doing well yourself. I am hoping the same thing, I just want to get settled get everything fired and start working in clay and take a day off a week for fishing and visiting the tourist attractions, etc. HA.
