Misjudged
Just finished loading the kiln and I misjudged the height of a handle on a bowl. As I set the shelf down I heard I pop. I pulled it up and saw the handle broke off. I decided to fire it anyway and use it in a raku firing as a test piece.
I finished loading the kiln and am trying to decide if I should fire it now or tomorrow. I used some half shelves from my last kiln to pack the kiln with more work. Florida temperatures are heating up and Sunday is supposed to be almost 90 F. Have a good weekend.

oh darn... that's a bummer. find or cut a stick the length of the space between your posts, lay it across the posts over your pots so that you can gauge whether or not your pots are too tall for the shelves as you are loading. a handy and cheap tool. enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteHi Michele, thanks, I usually use a ruler or level at the top, but never used anything inside except my eyeball, from now on I will use something on the lower shelves too. That bowl had texture on the outside and the inside as an experiment, darn.
ReplyDeleteThat had to be off putting. You are remarkably good-natured about the whole thing. I suspect I would have performed. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteHi Mary, thanks, well truth be told, there were a few cuss words at first.
