Cardinal Couple

The other morning I saw a vibrant cardinal outside my kitchen window and then I saw his mate in the nearby shrubs. He seemed so lively hopping here and there; his bright red color was a cheerful sight to me. So I was inspired to make this cardinal couple. This wall plaque is about 9.5 x 10 inches.

I've got to get organized to do a firing real soon since work is piling up in the cabinet. I just hate to quit working to do so. I've got more birds on my mind. I better hurry though because pretty soon the robins will be coming and that means Spring will be just around the corner. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Hi Judy, thanks, I was never drawn to red until recently and now I find It creeping into my work, it seems a happy color to me, energetic feeling.

  2. My Grandmother's favorite bird was the cardinal, I can't see one without thinking of her, which is nice. After she passed away I took a workshop with Debora Fritz who said she always put a red bird or a spot of red on her sculptures because it reminded her of her mother who also loved cardinals. What a nice tribute.

  3. Hi Lori, thanks, birds are so well loved they bring a bright spot into our lives just by being there, lovely thoughts of your grandmother and Debra's mother.

  4. Like the plaque...not only the superior birds but the branch design they sit on....nice the way the red berries emphasize and echo the birds.

  5. Hi Suzi, thanks so much, after I made the leaves, then I decided to add the berries and then I wished I had made the leaves with points like for holly, but they were already attached. I used a different color red for the berries, not sure if it will be noticeable after firing we shall see, hope the berries stay put.

  6. excellent! so realistic. the Cardinal is the state bird here in NC. we have lots of them around the studio. they like to perch on the side mirrors of our vehicles and admire themselves! unfortunately it makes a mess of my SUV.

  7. There is no background that does not look better but for the Cardinal in the foreground.

  9. I'm a bit late commenting as we just returned from Louisiana. And my gadgets didn't work as planned, no surprises there. But when I read where you pulling out of what I pulled out of, I wanted to extend a hand. It takes time, Linda, lots of time. You're wise to take each day as it comes. I can't tell you when the day will come, but it will - and you'll awake feeling like the old you, ready to jump into the world. Until then, be kind to yourself, rest, and, most of all, think positive thoughts until your brain aches. Good luck, my friend!

  10. Hi Michele, thanks, there aren't any cardinals in the West so I am enamored with them here, their colors are so bright. Gary doesn't like the birds hanging around the car either, their droppings are hard to get off the paint. Ha.

    Hi Cazz, thanks so much.

Hi Patti, thanks, a robin this late, strange, they come here in late February from the South I think to eat the Carolina berries.

Hi Kittie, thanks, I don't have the same problem you had but a few others which it does take time regulate from, it's often up and down here, up now, but last week three days down, thanks for your support. Glad to see you made it back home safely.
