Layers of earth I've seen on the sides of mountains inspired me to brush underglazes and red clay slip on this curved tower. The lightest colors are a sandy rose and pale gray underglaze. I can't wait to see how this one fires. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
I love it...very similiar to some pieces I've done of about the same shape, with geological type finish. I think earth should sometimes look earthy!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, that's what inspired me, the sides of mountains I have seen driving across country. earthy or pretty dirt. Ha.
ReplyDeleteYes, the badlands on a cloudless day.
ReplyDeleteI love the effect you produced. I think you're onto something there!
ReplyDeleteNice, it reminds me of indians.

Very nice, erosion can be very inspiring. That's what has helped to influence Nick Joerling's latest works so why not you too?
ReplyDeleteit's interesting to see how this series of work is progressing for you!
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne, thanks, oh yes that's just the places I have been.
ReplyDeleteHi Ms. Sparrow, thanks, so many memories of places I have been.
Hi Lori, thanks, oh I am wondering what his work will look like, hope to see some soon.
Hi Michele, thanks, so many ideas of colors and surface treatments for similar pieces.
Wow! This is really striking. Can't wait to see it completely finished.
ReplyDeleteHi Elna, thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, hope the lighter colors show up after firing.
Hello Linda-I am catching up on your posts. Have you been to Death Valley or Coral Reef? I just love the pink sands one finds in both places. Your towers look very much like those bluffs.
ReplyDeleteHi Charlene, thanks, yes I have been to Death Valley many times and lots of other deserts too. Don't know about Coral Reef, another desert I like is the Anza Borrego desert.
