Today I felt a bit sad at the sight of this dead yellow tail when I unwrapped the package from the fish market. He was so beautiful lying there. I decided to honor him as my food source by making a fish platter. The platter is drying in the cabinet; it's about 14 x 10 inches, sgraffito and carving with multiple underglazes.
Later I cooked him on the grill with lime slices and wrapped in bacon. This post is part of Mud Colony what's happening in the studio this week. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Wrapped in bacon and slices of lime ... yum! Next time you will be able to serve it on a beautiful platter. You've captured the yellow tail's delicate colouring perfectly.
ReplyDeleteHi Robyn, thanks, I was thinking about serving fish on the platter after I made it. I hope the colors look as nice after I put the clear glaze over the top.
ReplyDeleteBoth dishes look wonderful! I really love the platter.
ReplyDeleteHi Elaine, thanks, I hope it doesn't develop any cracks, keeping my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteI love the fish platter...as well as the yummy grilled fish. Great job depicting the fish.
ReplyDeleteThe platter is wonderful. I see even fish gets better with bacon.
ReplyDeleteBoth the fish and the platter looks so delicious! The platter reminds me of the Japanese fish stamp printing (gyotaku). I love how you textured the platter, too.
ReplyDeleteLove fish especially salmon almost as much as the bears to.
ReplyDeleteSomeone once told me that it's not so bad to eat an animal as long as you honor that animal's sprit. I think you did that quite well in the platter and in the meal.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, I hope it dries up nice and doesn't get any cracks, I like this one.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne, thanks, the bacon keeps the fish from sticking to the grill when I cook it. I get bacon that doesn't have any nitrates in it.
Hi Helen, thanks, oh I love the salmon too, we have really taken to all the fresh fish here in Florida.
Hi Lori, thanks, I felt better after I made the platter, the fish was so beautiful looking.
Both the platter and the grilled fish look incredible!
ReplyDeletemmmm Bacon.....
ReplyDeleteHi Claudia, thanks, hope the platter fires up nicely, looking forward to it. The bacon helps keep the fish together and keep it moist, great over the campfire grill too.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul and Amanda, thanks, everything tastes better with bacon, I can't help but think of that advertisement for the dog saying beggin bacon.
