There's something peaceful about making pinch pots. Today's anniversary of terror in our country remind's me of the cruelty and unkindness in the world. When I have those thoughts, when I wonder the why of cruelty, and there's no reason, no need, pinching clay helps me to put things in perspective. So I've been pinching.
I start out with a square lump of clay and pound it into a round shape and then I begin in the middle and start pinching. Pinch, pinch, pinch, like a meditation, like a prayer.
I put my pots on wall board on an open grid shelf in a closet. I cover them lightly with a dry cleaning bag. This really seems to help dry the pots evenly. Sometimes, some days, some weeks, all I can do is pinch. Pinching for peace and kindness in the world. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Have you heard of Potters for Peace? It seems like you'd really like what they are doing.
ReplyDeleteHi Lori, thanks, no I haven't heard of it, I will look into it, thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteIn cooking we put a pinch of this and a dash of that to season things. Your pinched pots are also well seasoned.
