A Spider Sized Meal
Here is a bold jumper spider, Phidippus audax, munching on a true bug, Hemiptera. Have you ever come upon one of these jumper spiders? They usually jump away and you can't get a close look at them, but this time, since this one was eating, he stayed put so I could take his photos. He was on the side of the house and Gary spotted him and told me so I ran out to get a photo. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

I haven't seen one. I must investigate and see whether we get them. Excellent photo.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thanks, I've seen them here and in California, rather common, they can see quite well and jump away if you look too close.
DeleteSpiders creep me out, but this is fascinating! Did you manage a progression of pictures?
ReplyDeleteHi Suzi, thanks, we had company coming from out of the country and I forgot all about the spider later on.
DeleteYep, there he is eating that bug. Yum yum.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, I didn't realize they could eat an insect so large.
DeleteYikes!!! don't do bugs or spiders...yuk!!! but, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Turquoisemoon, thanks, well without the spiders we'd have more bugs. Ha.
DeleteAt a wood firing up at Hambidge we watched a spider drag a wasp across the area in front of the kiln, across a path then up the side of a cabin. I thought I made a video of some of it but it didn’t turn out.
ReplyDeleteSpiders are really fascinating creatures.
Hi Lori, thanks, wow, these insects are really working hard for their food.
ReplyDeleteThe ones here similar to that are much smaller.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, thanks, I have seen them smaller in Florida too, I guess this guy has grown due to his large meals. ha.
