Waiting on the Weather

The kiln has been loaded for two days while I wait on the weather. Not quite a full load but that's all that was ready and wanted to get some student work fired. More thunderstorms are predicted today. Hopefully I'll get to fire tonight.

The last couple of firings my kiln took 1.5 hours longer to fire than it normally does and at one point it wouldn't climb past 200 F till I raised my home ac to a higher temperature. I called the power company and they finally came out to inspect and said there was a loose wire on the transformer. Does that sound right? I'll have to keep another closer eye on the kiln this next firing.

In other news a few more pieces of pottery found new homes this week in Alabama and Florida. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. Good thing you called the electric company, let's hope they are right and it solves your problem.
It sounds like sales are taking off for you!

  2. Hi Michele, thanks, yes I hope that solves the problem with the kiln but I wonder if I didn't have a kiln that told me how long the firing took, how would i know my house wasn't getting full power, that could make appliances fail and raise my electric prices for the ones I am using. yes sales have been good, thank goodness

  3. I wonder how often we are getting less than full power. I suspect most of us don't notice until something fails to work at all.
    Yay for sales.

    1. Hi Sue, thanks, since we moved here our microwave quit working after less than a year and it was brand new when we moved in. I too suspect we don't know how much power we are NOT getting.

  5. A volt meter is a fairly cheap and handy tool.
