For the past several days I've had a terrible neck ache which prevented me from doing much at all. I remembered I had a piece of a dark brown clay slab tightly wrapped up in plastic waiting to be used. I decided to make some small item with the slab. This is the piece I came up with. I even had to delve into the scrap pile to get the top piece made, using every last bit of clay. Hopefully my neck will improve quickly so I can get to glazing the big pots waiting in the kiln.
Later I went down to the studio to cover the piece when I was sure the top could handle a light covering of plastic. I turned on the light and this is what I saw. Years ago I would have cried at the sight, but this time I laughed and took a second look. The piece looks as if it's walking in a slight breeze. This time the clay spoke twice. I have no idea how I'll get this in the kiln without breaking off the long arms but we'll see what happens. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Very nice!

Hi Elna, thanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI think it's an amazing piece. I think it needs pockets for it little handsies, though.
ReplyDeleteHi Joanne, thanks, yes for the handsiers. Ha.
ReplyDeleteOops. Lesson leaned, always wrap the attachments, even if you can’t yet cover the handle.
ReplyDeleteHi Lori, thanks, first time this has ever happened to me, live and learn that's for sure.
