Last night the sky was so bright I ran out to see. In the Eastern sky the Moon was full and Mars was in opposition.

A few minutes later clouds passed in front and they were just a glow. But then I looked down and lightening bugs were flickering over the lawn. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
It was cloudy here early and I forgot to check later. Lightening bugs? Colour me jealous.
ReplyDeleteHi Elephant's Child, thanks, I just barely got to get a glimpse and then clouds moved in but it was so bright. I think the lightening bugs are early this year.
DeleteIt's very bright here tonight. I guess that's why I can't sleep.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, thanks, it was so bright here I thought there was a light on outside, ha.
DeleteHow splendid to see the moon and mars,
ReplyDeleteon stage before a cast of stars!
... that just bubbled up from somewhere! Anyway it is wonderful to look at such things in the night sky. We get good views of Jupiter here, and I have made out a blurry impression of Saturn's rings through our rather bad telescope. It all makes me feel very small, and the earth, and its little scraping of an atmosphere, most fragile. Beautiful though!
Hi Peter, thanks, Oh I have always wanted a telescope I saw one in a second hand store and wanted to buy it but we didn't have any money at the time, one of these days. We live far enough out that we can see the night sky quite well; in California it was even better and we saw Jupiter there very nicely in a certain season; maybe it was summer. Your line about the moon, mars and stars needs to be in a poem, song, or a movie for sure.
DeleteI caught a glimpse of the moon through our living room window last night, but never made it outside for a good look.
ReplyDeleteHi Michele, thanks, apparently this is the closest Mars has been in ten years, worth it to check it out. I accidentally saw it and then looked it up and found out about the opposition, which Mars was directly opposite the sun.
