Three More Mice. One Lucky, Two Not

Barney has turned into a hunting machine. This past week he's brought in three more mice. The first mouse was lucky; Barney dropped him and the mouse ran into the bathroom. I closed the bathroom door and Gary went in to retrieve the mouse. The mouse ran around and around the small bathroom but finally ran into one corner and Gary caught him in a tupperware container. Gary took the mouse outside and released him.

Another day the mouse wasn't so lucky because Barney brought him in and dropped him. Gary looked down and saw the mouse was dead. Then last night Barney brought in another mouse. He chased him around for hours. This morning I woke up and there was a portion of the mouse on the floor.

In the back of my mind I keep thinking he'll bring in something even worse than a mouse, like a snake.Things are going to change; I can't stand all these mice in my house. I am blocking off the cat door to the inside and Barney will be out during the day and in at night. I will let him in only after I check his mouth for a mouse. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

  1. I imagine that can be a problem with a pet door. I had a friend who was sitting on her bed one night reading when a raccoon walked into her bedroom. He had come in through the cat door.

    1. Hi Rian, thanks, I thought with two cat doors, one on the porch screen room that type of intrusion such as an animal coming in on their own would be avoided but the mice have gotten to be just about as bad.

  2. We had raccoon's come in the cat door, too. They waited until we were in bed.

    1. Hi Joanne, thanks, these animals are smarter than we realize that's for sure.

  3. Poor Barney...but he will adapt to hunting without bringing his prey to you for praise. I'm sure you will praise his other skills.

    1. Hi Barbara, thanks, with all the comings and goings and the thought of the mice in the house I wasn't getting much sleep so Barney will have to adapt, today is nice and warm and he hasn't wanted to come in at all, we shall see about tonight and wanting to go out, time for me to train him instead of him training me.

  4. My two are indoor cats...and don't go out day or night.

I'm like Gary...in the days when they did go outside for a brief period,if they happened to bring in a "prize", I, too, would take it off them...and release it back outside to let run free from whence it came.

Give Barney a cuddle for me...he's a beautiful fellow. :)
