This is the first year I've been able to grow enough basil to make homemade pesto. I grew basil in the bins with the peppers. I think basil needs deeper, richer soil than the heavy clay here.
I tossed the pesto with gluten free spiral noodles. Start out with some good quality olive oil, add the basil leaves, lots of minced garlic, salt and pepper. Blend in your blender till smooth. Add some pine nuts, blend. Pour into a bowl and stir in grated parmesan cheese. Delicious.
I'll be at the farmers market today from 7 am to 1 pm. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
Yum. I have never grown enough basil for my needs. And doesn't it go beautifully with tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue,thanks, the bins are really helping with my vege growing especially the peppers and basil, all the other herbs do ok in the ground but basil needs deeper soil
DeleteI make pesto once a week. We use it on everything. Proge did pesto chicken on the grill last night. Yum!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzi, thanks, I used to get store bought but it doesn't agree with me any longer, suspect the oil isn't good.
DeleteI used to grow basil, plus other herbs, but don't do so these days.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, thanks, I have quite a collection of herbs growing and I am using them a lot. I think they have a lot of minerals we need.
DeleteLove basil...don't eat pasta that much! But fresh basil snipped into a tortilla wrapped around some melted cheese...yum!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, oh I have some gluten free wraps I am going to try that since I still have more basil leaves.
