Delores Coan Pottery

I was perusing through fb marketplace and saw some beautiful well crafted pottery. The seller happened to show the bottom of one of the pots so I looked for the potter. With a bit of searching I found the potter is Delores Coan a long time potter and pottery teacher in Connecticut.  I messaged her and asked her if the pots were hers. She messaged me back and said they were hers. Amazingly she bought the two pieces of pottery to give to her children since she sold all of her pottery years ago.

Delores contacted me and this is what she said:  "I cannot thank you enough Linda. I’m so touched you found me. My husband did the wood working. He did tops for my pots as well. He has passed away. I bought these for my children. We sold everything we made. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to have these for my children. "

"These pieces were made in the 80’s I’d say. I would travel to The National Craft Show in MD, just outside of DC to sell the work. The lady that bought them was from Virginia. Her daughter in Georgia is selling them because of moving and their house sold in one day. The work is now coming home to be given to my children. We were known for the wood and clay combo. We were written up in the 70’s in Yankee Magazine as one of New England’s finest crafts people. Doing the shows in DC area brought our work for permanent collection at the Smithsonian Museum in the Industrial Revolutionary building. " Follow this link to read an article about Delores Coan. Be sure to sign your work you never know when you might want to become re-acquainted with your pottery.

    1. Hi Barbara, thanks, I am happy as a lark Delores was able to get these pieces to give to her children, I was tempted to buy them for myself but alas I am at that age where I don't need pottery but need to sell them or give them away.
