Look, look, look what I saw, a
white squirrel! This isn't a hoax; the photo is not altered other than cropped and reduced in size. This really is a white squirrel; one of the native fauna here in Western North Carolina. We saw this white squirrel in Flat Rock. Apparently the white squirrel is a variation of the grey squirrel and they live around here. There is even a
White Squirrel Festival. This one seemed to have a different quality to it's fur and also walked differently than the gray squirrels I'm familiar with but maybe that's normal for white squirrels. The white squirrel seemed to hop more than run like other squirrels. Next time I see one I'll be sure to observe the gait of the squirrel much more closely.
This squirrel is not an albino; as you can see there are several patches of darker color. Don't you know I want to make a white squirrel plate or some such in clay. Oh this little guy was so cute. Gary said he thought this squirrel was older due to his unusual gait, but we have no way of knowing. We can only observe more closely the next time we see a white squirrel.
