Just discovered the artist Emily Carr, 1871-1945, and I am in awe of her work. Her paintings are very powerful. Carr was a Canadian artist and author and much of her work was inspired by indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast.
She said of her art, I was not ready for abstraction. I clung to earth and her dear shapes, her density, her herbage, her juice. I wanted her volume and I wanted to hear her throb.

She said, "Trees love to toss and sway, they make such happy noises".
