I'm having so much fun exploring color and patterns on plates. These plates are nine inches but will probably shrink to eight and a half inches. As I work I'm wondering how they will look after I apply all the colors. I don't have a pattern in mind when I start out. For these I decided to use three main colors and started brushing the background color on the plate. I'm not sure where these bursting circles come from either. Maybe from stars in the night sky or from street lights glowing in the dark.
I really like the lavender background with the red circles. Something about the combo of these two colors. I just noticed I have six circles on the green plate and five on the red and lavender ones. Shows they're hand made one at a time. By changing the background color but keeping a similar pattern each plate is completely unique. It helps to look at these in a photograph. My mind's eye can see several variations. I could use three circles or just one and the look would be completely different. Do you see a different combination?
Here's another plate with orange and rose. I think I'll add a black line around the center lavender circle. This is almost an optical illusion. I painted the orange background first and then added the rose triangles. It looks like the orange was added afterwards. I rather like the offset look of the pattern, sort of a lopsided pinwheel. It was a take off from the first four plates I did with the aqua backgrounds like the one below.
Some of these could be in a set I think, mix and match. Color and pattern possibilities are endless. More frost on the pumpkin last night. Sitting here with my wool throw over my legs; thank goodness for my electric blanket. Gary covered some of our more tender plants, like the sago palm and a few others.
