If I haven't visited your blog recently I apologize. My excuse is I've been doing some major Spring cleaning. Yesterday Gary and I spent the whole day into the evening cleaning and rearranging the garage to make it more efficient for both of us. We moved the two wood shelves from our lanai into the garage so those are new shelves for finished work. I use half the garage to do my firing of the pottery and also my glazing. Gary uses the other half for his projects. What we did yesterday was locate all the large equipment on one side of the garage so we'd have the other half free to set up for various projects. We have several portable six foot tables we can set up wherever we need to for our projects. I tables up when I am glazing, loading, and unloading the kiln or giving classes. Gary can set one up when he's working on a project like the boat motor which not is all rebuilt and has it's own stand which can be rolled around the garage.
These two cabinets house my glazes and glazing supplies and there's the back door to the garage. In summer I can open that door to get cross ventilation. I have several fans I turn on when the kiln is firing. One I set up high to blow out the hot air which rises. I also have a portable air conditioner which I normally don't use except during tours or pottery classes in summer.
Here's my kiln in the far corner covered when not in use. I also keep it unplugged with the plug raised up off the concrete floor to keep moisture from condensing on it. There is at least eighteen inches free space around all sides of the kiln kept clear for when I fire it. The tan sheet on the floor on the right is covering extra sections of my raku kiln.
On the far wall are three tall rolling carts. Gary has two and I have one. In the foreground from left to right is the portable back up generator, the raku kiln and then the slab roller with the photo tent on top. On top of the generator is a mini air compressor and ice chest. Under the slab roller (which isn't visible as portable tables are blocking it) is the large air compressor. I also have three sets of saw horses which I can put 2 x 12's across for more table space. I often do that when loading or unloading the kiln.
Here's my photo tent covered and sitting on top of my slab roller. Not sure what that cardboard tube or metal pan is. Looks like I missed a few things. Ha.
Here's the aisle between the slab roller and the rolling carts. My glazing chair is temporarily sitting there. I move it to the table when I do my glazing. I hand brush all my glazes so I sit down to do that.
Here's a look at the other side of the garage. The washer and dryer and washtub are located over there along with the hot water heater and the furnace and Gary's roll around tool box. See my old straw hat from my lavender farming days.
It may not look like it but on this empty side of the garage there is actually enough room to fit one car in or set up tables for glazing or projects. Today I'll clean my studio and give you a look at that tomorrow. I am sorry I didn't take a before photo of the garage. Not sure I have the nerve to show you the studio before photo. It has gotten quite messy to say the least. In between Spring cleaning projects, I've been adding new pots to my
