With the last bit of little loafers clay I made another sign with a more upright stance and a brighter coral background. I pressed letters into the slab and placed real leaves as a resist. I hand brushed the coral and brown stains and then removed the leaves. This sign will be glazed a green celadon. The leaves will be green and the coral color will tone down. The leaves are Japanese maple although they look like a different leaf altogether.
Here's the first sign I made, unloaded from the kiln the other day. Sorry about the reflection but I'm pressed for time. Had my painting class today (stay tuned for progress photos); driving to Atlanta to get clay tomorrow; and loading up for the farmer's market on Saturday.
