The other day I had my first home grown tomato, a Black Krim. On the outside they look red but when you cut them open you can see the dark color in the flesh and seeds.
These are the first three tomatoes I picked. The flesh is splitting due to all the rain but it heals up and they are still edible. One is Cherokee purple, and the other is Black Krim. The yellow tomato I think it's Lemon Boy isn't that flavorful to my taste buds. The Cherokee purples and the black Krim are much better. I've found two horn worms so far and picked them off. I don't know how they find the tomatoes but they do.
At the farmer's market this week I got these pattypan squash.
I also got all of these shallots for three dollars. They'll last me a good long while.
We've become addicted to the white half runner beans. I cook them with onion, garlic and fresh tomatoes. They are so delicious. Even though I have to string and snap them the flavor is worth the trouble.
As we were sitting on the deck yesterday Gary spied this bird in the grass. He went down to take a photo and saw it was a mourning dove. I think it was taking advantage of the little bit of sun we had briefly. Hope you have a relaxing fourth of July. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

Mourning Doves and a Bunny
We've had quite a bit of rain the last week or so but this morning clouds were sporadic so I took advantage and went for a walk. I left on my morning walk earlier than normal before breakfast in case it started to rain again. I spotted a pair of mourning doves on the electric line. Mourning doves are very common birds. I'm sure you've heard their calsl, full of lament. If not click on the link and there's a button to press to hear their coo. Mourning doves eat seeds on the ground and store them in their crop and then rest on the telephone lines or elsewhere and digest the seeds at leisure.
A little further down the street I almost missed seeing a bunny sitting perfectly still on the other side of the street. See his little cottontail tucked under. I thought for sure he'd run away but he sat perfectly still with his eye focused intently on me. I walked slowly and carefully as I got closer hoping not to scare him away.
As I passed by I turned and noticed the bunny had moved his head to keep an eye on me.
When I came back down the street the bunny had moved into the grass.
On my way back home I took another photo of the palm emerging from it's winter sleep. I'm itching to make a sculpture with this shape, it's really calling me. But for now I'll just think about it since I have other duties. It's good to know I'll be able to look back here on my own blog and refresh my memory. Up next I hope to show you our new (to us) rolling home we'll be traveling in this summer so stay tuned. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
