She was the first woman painter admitted to the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts in 1894.
She was a self taught artist who observed the painter's techniques she modeled for.
She was also the mother of painter Maurice Utrillo.
Valadon spent almost 40 years as an artist and her subject matter included female nudes, female portraits, still lifes, and landscapes.
This and the first painting are two of my favorites. I love her use of bold colors and black lines to define details.
