When you pass a certain age the fact your life is finite begins to take on an all encompassing importance. It's not something which occurs on a certain day, but gradually you begin to realize you're running out of time. You form mental bucket lists; lists of what you want to do before you die. These thoughts enter my mind more and more like clockwork, tick, tick, tick. Time is running out. I want to, I should, I need to, I planned on, I promised, and so on.
There comes a time when lists become worthless. What's the sense of making a list if I never cross the item off the list. Best just to do it before I think about it or I have too much on my list and never get to it. One of the things on my bucket list is to learn to play an instrument, to become more involved with music in an active way. I am drawn to percussion instruments and singing. What about you, what's on your bucket list, your list of things you plan to do or want to do?
How long ago did I
mention getting a tongue drum? Look back and see, it was almost two and a half years ago. Do I have the tongue drum yet? No I don't. Admittedly, cost was a factor at the time. I have a small amount (meager if truth be told) of disposable money right now. I plan on making things happen musically speaking.
Before Christmas I saw a tubephone in an antique store. Instead of hesitating and thinking about it, I bought it. It's a child's instrument from the 1920s but actually produces a melodious tone. The tubephone is similar to a
xylophone. I had a xylophone when I was a child and I remember that I loved that toy. Hum, what's old becomes new again. Anyway, I learned the
Young Harris College nearby has an extensive music department. I hope to connect with someone who can help me in my musical pursuits.
For New Year's Day I decided to cook some
black eyed peas. I heard they're supposed to bring prosperity for the New Year. So why not try them, they might help me accomplish my bucket list. Ha. What traditions do you observed for New Year's Eve or Day? Happy New Year to you all. Oh and don't forget to say
