Flowers and Fried Beet Greens

Seeing the bright red roses in the ditch yesterday must have inspired me to make a couple of colorful pieces in clay. The upper one is a large platter.

This one is a bowl about eleven inches in diameter. It's difficult to see the depth from this angle.

Yesterday we got up early and went to the farmer's market. One of the items we got were some fresh beets. As we returned home we met our neighbor walking her dog and she said she loved fried beet greens so I gave her some of ours.

I decided I'd try cooking some of the beet greens for us. On my neighbor's advice I melted some butter and chopped up the beet greens. I decided to add some dried basil and cumin. I cooked the mixture till the ends were soft. They were good. I guess they were actually sauteed but in the South that's probably called fried. Ha. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.
