Pondering Woman

Pondering Woman
@ 8 x 10 inch wall hanging

Will people hang a portrait which isn't a relative or friend? I hope so. Of course, that's assuming I have no warping or cracking issues. I may have to get more underglazes which are suitable for skin tones.

Self Portrait Age 55
@ 9 x 9 inch wall hanging

This is a self portrait of me when I was about 55, I have more lines now. I think I could improve the shading, my features aren't quite as they should be. I'll have to get a book from the library and see how the shading is done, since I've never drawn faces, let alone painted them. It's a great challenge though. I'll work on one of Gary today. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

UPDATE:

I've touched up my self portrait and I added a background color which I forgot to do, better, worse? Something about the neck that isn't quite right. oh well, better next time. I have portrait studying to do. Ha.

Another update, I revised the neckline and put in more shading. I better quit while I am ahead, but it's fun to see the revisions together to see the changes. Thanks for all your comments and encouragement.

  1. Once knew a woman who had 50 or so pictures of ancestors on her wall. Each had a name and a story but none were related to her.

  2. Hello Linda:
To answer your question, why on earth should they not?

    Your self portrait is wonderful.

  3. These are great! Sometimes after bisque I will add highlights with acrylic paints - easier than to keep re-firing and I seem to get better color with the acrylics.

  4. Hi Dennis, thanks, well that is very interesting, 50 portraits, I need some stories for the portraits.

Hi Jane and Lance, thanks, I went back and did more on mine and added the background color which I neglected to do before, I think it looks better now

Hi Judy, thanks, I added acrylics on the other wall sculptures I did and they did come out better, more enhanced. I even added some gold, silver, and copper highlights. I am really enjoying this work and can't wait to do another one.

  5. I love that you can touch up yourself! Nothing like a good air brushing to buff things out.

Hi Michele, thanks so much, I need a lot of touching up, and taking off of a few extra layers in the middle. Ha.

  9. Hi Judith, thanks so much for your encouragement. I have just added another revision of my self portrait and I'll leave it now. I think working with any of my clay work is great therapy.

  10. Thank you for the comment on my blog Linda! :) I used to have stacks of paperwork that I DREADED handling...but now I'm paperless. It's all hidden in the computer. :) And, while I'm here, I have to say that your portraits are coming along wonderfully! You are many talented. And I love that blue water for your background. Did you change that last week?

  11. Hi Bohemiannie, thanks so much about my portraits. I always say I'll go paperless and have yet to do it, one of these days. I've had that blue water behind my blog the whole time. Sometimes I think blogger doesn't always download all he photos or backgrounds, at least for my old computer Ha. thanks again.
