Not So Rickety Cart
Perhaps you recall these two carts I made some time ago. Yesterday I decided to make another. I planned on making one that wasn't so rickety.
Sometimes the original idea is better than subsequent ones. I really like these first two much better than this next one. I think the sides are too tall and I don't like the vine texture on it.
Since I took the time to cut out all the pieces I decided I might as well make it. But I think I like the rickety carts better than this newer one.
Today I'll make another one and work on the scale of the piece and add some rickety back in. It isn't easy making something rickety and still keeping it standing up. This post is part of the Mud Colony weekly what's happening in he studio. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

The first one's tend to have a freshness about them. So often when we try to recreate a design, only better we loose that freshness. I think the vine pattern works great, I think of the cart being used to carry grapes or wine barrels. I'd keep playing with it, and let that play show. It'll be great.
ReplyDeleteit's a very original idea, I've never seen anything like them before..I think these carts are very nice, very charming and charismatic!
ReplyDeleteHi Lori, thanks, the first two for flowers and the second for wine barrels. You are right about loosing the freshness I think that's why I tend to make one of a kind because of that feeling of newness and freshness. I may make a couple of barrels to go in the cart. oops I probably can't fit them in there now, lol. Ha.
ReplyDeleteHi Mark, thanks, mye original idea for these came from photographs of those old time flower carts folks used to have on street corners that were drawn by a horse perhaps. I didn't realize how many parts went into make one of these till I lined them all up for a photo, fun to make though.
ReplyDeleteI like seeing the parts all laid out like that. I really like the wheels on this one, and I think it will look good when done. I do like the first two a little better though, esp. the green one.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, I do like the green one too, perhaps because it's rather delicate looking and it's perched on top of those small wheels, sometimes things that are small and delicate are appealing and it's kind of contradictory to have something like a cart be delicate looking. I'll make more.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! Especially the one with all the parts. I remember these carts and they have a rustic charm. So glad you are doing more.
ReplyDeleteI love your little carts! They make me think of olden days and books I've read.
ReplyDeletei find the first one very appealing... when your new one is fired you may have a different opinion of it. be sure to show it to us when it's done!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Michele, I think the right glaze will get the look without trying to make it rickety. I like this new one.
ReplyDeleteI do like that first one but think the luxery model is really neat and would like to see it finished. All carts had to be new at one time. Enjoyed the lay out of pieces also.
ReplyDeleteHi Charlene, thanks, I have lots of pieces I've made in the past and forgot about; I am trying to review that work and see what I can develop further.
ReplyDeleteHi Ms Sparrow, thanks, I think that's where I got the idea from some old movie or a book somewhere in the back of my mind.
Hi Michele, thanks, yes these look completely different when they are fired, I'll be sure to show it.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna, thanks, yes some type of glaze the pools in the texture would be good.
Hi Patti, thanks, ha the luxury model, I like that, we shall see how it does. Glad you like the parts lined up. Amazing how many parts it takes to make one of these.
