Mother Goddess
Throughout history and in many different cultures, a woman, a mother goddess, has been depicted, has been revered. When we were traveling across the country moving from California to Florida, I made the above sketch in my journal and today I remembered it. I never put it on clay because it didn't seem right for a plate or wall hanging, perhaps a painting one of these days. Happy Mothers Day to all, especially Mother Earth. Thanks for reading and for all your comments.

Lovely goddess. I especially like her acorn womb. Can't see detail enough to figure out her ovaries...? Yes, I'd love to see you develop this design further!
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, thanks, her ovaries are oak leaves. I don't even know where this came from; my native american roots and I must have been thinking about traveling to north carolina at the time.
ReplyDeleteI like her. Hips just like mine.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of celebrating Mother Earth......Happy Day!

Had forgotten about Mother Earth. How true! In South America, some call Mother Earth Pachamama. This is true in Bolivia. I have a pacha mama figuring on my desk. :)

Hi Amy, thanks, I read about pachamama when I looked up the link, very interesting that almost every culture has has depicted woman in their art. I hope you post your pachamama figure on your blog some day for me to see.
Very nice sketch and sentiment.
ReplyDeleteGreat depiction of her. She would look great as a painting with vibrant colors. :)

ReplyDeleteHi NatashaMay, thanks, I am not sure about vibrant colors, but we shall see what happens with it.
